"Case pocket knives have been the exclusive mainstay in the Reaves family for the last six generations. The Mini Trapper is an iconic part of our legacy and the model I'm more than proud to put my name on. It represents not only my family's heritage but also that of the American craftsmen and women who produce them." - Brent Reaves

The Mini Trapper is a smaller version of the Case Knives Trapper, carrying two full-length blades: the Clip blade and the Spey blade. The Clip blade is used as a multi-purpose blade and preferred for detail work, while the Spey blade is used as an all-purpose utility blade. The basic trapping and skinning blades make this a must-have knife for those who trap small game. This knife is fitted with carbon steel blades known for their high tensile strength, wear resistance, and toughness. Many prefer this steel for its edge retention and ease of re-sharpening. Since these are not stainless blades, a thin coat of oil applied after each use can help maintain their original finish.

Build quality isn’t great

None of what I’m about to say is Meateater’s fault, it all has to do with Case and their quality control.
My first issue is that this knife wasn’t sharp out of the box, it had a very rough edge that was barely able to cut paper, much less shave hair.
Second, the case logo glued onto the side of the knife is raised making the knife awkward to hold. It seems as though it didn’t seat all the way into the red bone scale.
And finally, the springs are lose. Lock up when the blades are fully entended is fine, but the half stop and everything in between is mushy.
Brent Reaves and Meateater are a-ok in my book, but perhaps they should keep their knife collaborations with high quality knife makers such as Benchmade and MKC.
