MeatEater Time Machine Clovis Hunters Hoody
For 2026, we’re taking a trip through time to revisit the moments that shaped American outdoor culture and influenced the way we hunt, fish, explore, and connect with the land.
We’re calling it the MeatEater Time Machine. It’s a yearlong look back at the stories, people, and turning points that built the outdoor world we’re part of today.
First stop - 13,500 BCE. The first stop on the MeatEater Time Machine takes us back to the Ice Age Clovis Hunters. Long before the invention of archery, these hunters used spears and atlatls tipped with beautifully crafted stone points to take down mastodons and mammoths.
Ever wondered how long it would take to butcher a bison using Clovis points and tools? Yeah, us too. Check out the trip the MeatEater crew took in September 2022 alongside researchers from Kent State University, Southern Methodist University, and University of Oregon to do exactly that. Watch the video here, and read more about the MeatEater-assisted research paper here.
Can’t get enough about Mammoths and Ice Age hunting? Tune into Ep. 178: Hunting Mammoths and Ep. 564: De-extinction: Can We Make a Mammoth, and Why Should We? of the MeatEater Podcast.
