If you thought our all-star chef Kevin Gillespie was only a master of food, you thought wrong. His artistic talents stretch far beyond the delicious, intricate meals he whips up in the kitchen. This eye-catching painting of his, titled “Wrangell-St.Elias” is an imaginative reinterpretation of the sunset colors he experienced while hunting mountain goats in Alaska. The color study is meant to disrupt the conventional view of beauty and solitude, while also paying homage to the youthful sense of wonder someone might experience when viewing a foreign landscape for the first time. This mixed media painting (acrylic, pen and ink, oil pastel) is 16”x16” on birch wood panel. It's the same color of sky that makes you whisper "oh shit" under your breath when you look up at it six miles from your truck.
